The Research Projects Directory includes information about all projects that currently exist in the Researcher Workbench to help provide transparency about how the Workbench is being used. Each project specifies whether Registered Tier or Controlled Tier data are used.

Note: Researcher Workbench users provide information about their research projects independently. Views expressed in the Research Projects Directory belong to the relevant users and do not necessarily represent those of the All of Us Research Program. Information in the Research Projects Directory is also cross-posted on AllofUs.nih.gov in compliance with the 21st Century Cures Act.

Scientific Questions Being Studied

Stroke is the second leading cause of death and the leading cause of adult disability in the world, but relatively little is known about the underlying mechanisms that lead to stroke. No mechanism-based treatment or established prevention for hemorrhagic stroke is available, other than management of vascular risk factors. Up to 50% of cases of ischemic stroke remain without a specific etiology and thus unexplained. There are great disparities between different communities in stroke incidence and outcome after stroke. We aim to better understand health disparities and risk factors in traditionally underserved communities and to improve them in order to reduce overall burden of disease.

Project Purpose(s)

  • Disease Focused Research (Stroke (ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, cerebrovascular disease))
  • Population Health
  • Social / Behavioral
  • Ancestry

Scientific Approaches

We will assess prevalence of traditional as well as new cardiovascular risk factors, and environment exposures in a diverse dataset.

Anticipated Findings

The results of our studies will help to decrease the incidence of stroke by developing targeted risk factor prevention strategies.

Demographic Categories of Interest

This study will not center on underrepresented populations.
