All of Us for Otolaryngology
Scientific Questions Being Studied
We want to ask the question of whether All of Us is a suitable database to study general trends in ENT case loads.
Project Purpose(s)
- Control Set
Scientific Approaches
We plan to study All of Us from the context of ENT demographics and patient populations. We plan on using summarizing statistics and python to answer these questions.
Anticipated Findings
The anticipated findings are that All of Us has good capture of the more common outpatient diseases but does not have capture of surgical procedures.
Demographic Categories of Interest
This study will not center on underrepresented populations.
Data Set Used
Registered TierHearing Loss and Statins
Scientific Questions Being Studied
Hearing loss affects a significant portion of the elderly population in the US. We hope to examine the relationship between statin use and hearing loss as statins are used widely for control over cholesterol.
Project Purpose(s)
- Disease Focused Research (sensorineural hearing loss)
Scientific Approaches
We plan to use statistical methods to compare statins with those using statin alternatives for cholesterol control. This should allow us to examine the difference that statins causes.
Anticipated Findings
There hasn't been much research into this relationship, though we expect some correlation between hearing loss and statin use. Whether this difference will end up being significant remains to be seen.
Demographic Categories of Interest
This study will not center on underrepresented populations.
