Hypermobile Ehler's Danlos- All patients

What are common symptoms among patients with hEDS? What are common genetic mutations among these patients? Are there genetic factors that put people at risk for hEDS?

Scientific Questions Being Studied

Project Purpose(s)

  • Educational

Scientific Approaches

We want to see general trends in people with hEDS that we can later analyze in conjunction with literature review to find more about common symptoms and possible indications that can help with early diagnosis.

Anticipated Findings

Mutations to the COL5A1 and COL5A2 genes, high pain scores, gastrointestinal problems, pre-term labor.

Demographic Categories of Interest

  • Disability Status

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

What is the genetic aspect of Ehlers-Danols Syndrome? Who is affected by this disease? What are the symptoms of this disease?

Scientific Questions Being Studied

What is the genetic aspect of Ehlers-Danols Syndrome? Who is affected by this disease? What are the symptoms of this disease?

Project Purpose(s)

  • Disease Focused Research (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome)
  • Educational

Scientific Approaches

Findings will be compiled into a poster that will serve to inform people more about EDS. General research using this database and the internet will be used to answer the scientific questions.

Anticipated Findings

Anticipated findings are that the disease is most prevalent in younger populations, that Type I and Type II will be most frequent, and that individuals who inherit the disease recessively will have less severe symptoms.

Demographic Categories of Interest

This study will not center on underrepresented populations.
