Coronary Artery Calcium
Scientific Questions Being Studied
Coronary artery calcium scoring (CACS) is a strong tool in primary prevention for coronary artery disease (CAD). However, it is not covered by insurance currently. I seek to understand the use of and access to CACS in underrepresented populations. Although a proven strong tool for CAD risk assessment, I anticipate CACS is under utilized on underrepresented populations.
- Population Health
We will evaluate patients without known CAD, diabetes and divide into 2 groups. Those who have obtained CACS and those who have not. We will assess for differences in their medical history and laboratory evaluation as well as socioeconomic status to determine if that has influenced their ability to obtain a CACS.
We anticipate that patients from underrepresnted populations are less likely to obtain proven CACS for primary prevention of CAD events.
